Program Description: Cardiovascular sonography is an allied health profession specifically focused on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiac and vascular disease. The sonographer performs examinations at the request or direction of a physician. The sonographer is proficient in the use of analytical equipment and sundry apparatus including placing such equipment on or into the patient, or placing the patient on the equipment, acquisition of diagnostic images, cognitive skills involving data measurement, professionalism for patient interactions, and knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy and pathophysiology.

Course Grade Requirements: Satisfactorily complete (with a grade of C or better) all courses in the curriculum.

Student Learning Outcomes:

It is the goal of the Cardiovascular Sonography program:

1. To prepare cardiovascular technologists who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession of adult cardiac sonography

2. To prepare cardiovascular technologists who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession of noninvasive vascular study

3. To prepare students to obtain, review, and integrate pertinent patient history and supporting clinical information to facilitate optimum diagnostic results.

4. To prepare students who can demonstrate appropriate communication skills with patients and colleagues.

5. To prepare students to provide patient education related to cardiovascular sonography.
