Program Description: Instrumentation Technology will train you in the calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic control devices in highly complex systems that are used in the automation of industrial processes. Graduates will be able to function in the electrical maintenance and electrical distribution-related occupations, as well as have introductory-level knowledge of automation systems and designing, programming, and troubleshooting programmable logic controllers.

Overall Grade Point Average: Program requirements must be completed with an overall grade point average of 2.0 or higher in order to receive a certificate or degree.

Course Grade Requirements: All courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher.

Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in all necessary trade related tools and applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with NCCER and OSHA standards
  2. Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Electrical Theory, Electrical Hazards and Instrumentation drawings.
  3. Identify and/or install a variety of metallic and non-metallic pipes, tubes, hoses, lubricants, sealants, adhesives and cleaners used by instrumentation technicians.
  4. Identify and describe the use of process control components, control valves, actuators, positioners, relays, timers and switches.
  5. Demonstrate the procedures involved in proving, commissioning, troubleshooting and tuning a process control loop.
  6. Demonstrate ability to program logic gates, memory circuits, arithmetic circuits and decoders using a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Distributed Control System (DCS).
