This course provides an in-depth study of the structure, function, and disease processes of the human vascular system. Emphasis is placed on arterial and venous anatomy, hemodynamics, and the pathophysiological effects of vascular disease. Students will develop proficiency in medical terminology related to vascular anatomy, physiology, diagnostic imaging, pharmacology, and pathology. Topics include extra- and intracranial circulation, extremity arterial and venous systems, and abdominal and pelvic vessels, as well as vascular pathologies such as atherosclerosis, aneurysms, and venous thromboembolism. The course also introduces interpretation of sonographic and Doppler imaging in relation to vascular disease processes.
