This course provides an in-depth study of the structure, function, and disease processes of the human heart. Emphasis is placed on cardiac anatomy, the cardiac cycle and conduction system, hemodynamics, and the pathophysiological effects of major cardiac disorders. Students will also develop proficiency in medical terminology related to cardiac anatomy, physiology, diagnostic imaging, pharmacology, and pathology. Topics include ischemic heart disease, congenital anomalies, valvular disorders, ventricular dysfunction, and cardiomyopathies, as well as advanced imaging modalities such as 3D echocardiography, intracoronary echocardiography (ICE), and strain imaging.
